§ 05Working together

A small practice. By application.

I take a small number of engagements a year. Mostly with founders and operators making a real call about where AI changes the shape of their company, not just the speed of its workflows. The application is the only way in. Price is discussed privately, after I have read what you sent.

// what I will work on

  • +The decision upstream of your AI roadmap, before the workflow projects start.
  • +Picking which decisions to tighten with AI and which to deliberately leave loose.
  • +Designing the small piece of internal software that sits next to a load-bearing decision in your operating model.
  • +Building and shipping the first useful version of an agent system, end to end, with the eval suite that says it works.
  • +Stress-testing a strategic AI bet you have already chosen, in writing, before the spend lands.

// what I will not

  • ×AI training programs for your team.
  • ×Vendor selection and procurement.
  • ×Workflow pilots that are not upstream of a strategic question.
  • ×Generic AI readiness assessments and maturity scoring.
  • ×Customer-facing chatbots without a hard fallback, or autonomous agents that take expensive irreversible actions.

// who I am wrong for

Be honest with yourself before applying.

Do not apply if you have already decided what to build and need someone to execute. There are excellent shops for that. I am not one of them.

Do not apply if your goal is to legitimize a decision that has already been made internally. The deliverable for that kind of work is a memo I would not write, and you would eventually notice.

Do not apply if certainty about the future of AI is what you need from me. The honest answer to most forward-looking questions in this field is I do not know yet, but here is the working hypothesis and what would change my mind.

The reason to work with me is specifically that I will tell you what I actually think.

// apply

Send the shape of the question.

A few short paragraphs. What you are trying to decide, what you have tried, what makes the call hard. I read every one personally and reply within a week.

If it is a fit, the next note has a private brief and a price. If it is not, the next note has two or three people who fit better.

The newsletter is where the thinking lives in public. The application is where it gets pointed at your specific call.
